The submission process

The time it takes to receive a certificate of registration for unemployment tax after submitting your application can vary depending on the state and the method of submission (online or by mail).

Online Submission:

  • Immediate Confirmation: Many states provide an immediate confirmation or a temporary registration number upon successful online application submission.
  • Certificate of Registration: The official certificate might take anywhere from a few days to a couple of weeks to arrive, either by email or regular mail.

Mail Submission:

  • Processing Time: Applications submitted by mail generally take longer to process. Expect processing times of 2 to 4 weeks, depending on the volume of applications and the efficiency of the state's unemployment insurance agency.
  • Certificate of Registration: After processing, the certificate will be sent by mail, which might add an additional week or so to the total time.
